About Us

"Kennedy Originals" is the official cheer/pep squad and varsity dance team at John F. Kennedy High School. Its main goals are to promote school spirit and represent JFKHS in the all-island school dance competition hosted by the Allied Dance Force. Also called KO, or TKO (Team Kennedy Originals), the dance team hopes to excite the crowd by giving that "big knockout hit" in their performances. This group is supervised under Francis Labrador (JFKHS teacher representative). He is accompanied by well-known dance coaches; Jeremy Zamora (dance coach/choreographer from Step-Up Entertainment Company) and Rusty Estrellado (dance coach/choreographer from Guam Dance Community/Dance Jazz Company/Fusion Dance Company). The dance team will perform primarily cheer, hip-hop, contemporary, and jazz routines. What makes this team really "original" is the experience, knowledge, and creative ingenuity of its choreographers. These choreographers have participated and won local dance competitions, as well as Mr. Jeremy competing many times at the Hip-Hop International Dance Competitions. Their expertise will help produce exciting and unique routines that will capture the audience.

  • Members must maintain a “C” average or above to stay committed to the dance team.  If you are not doing well in academics, it is preferable to have you focus more on it than the dance team.

  • Members must not receive an “N” or “U” in their citizenship every quarter, as we will be representing the school. Students who do not behave accordingly will develop a negative impact to the team and will result to automatic removal of membership.

  • Medical physical is needed prior to the start of practices.  Coaches need to be informed of all possible health information to assure the safety of all students during practices and performances.

  • Members are required to meet every Fridays during lunch in room D107 to review dance routines or any logistics for the team. If they miss a meeting, they may not get the opportunity to voice concerns or participate in any decision-making for the team.

  • Practices will be held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of the week from 2:00pm-4:00pm in the JFK Dance Room.

  • Members must wear comfortable PE clothes for all practices and carry a water bottle for fluid replenishment.  Students may use the water fountains at the school.

  • If a member is unable to practice, he or she must make a courtesy call or text a message to the advisor.

  • Practices are mandatory. However, if they practice and perfect a routine, they have a better chance of performing with the varsity team.

  • 2:00pm-2:30pm is physical training (flexibility exercises Monday, cardio Wednesday, and core training Friday), 2:30pm-3:30pm is dance choreography, and 3:30-4:00pm is cheer/stunt practice.

  • Practice prior to performance will be strictly for clean-up and formations.

  • Cheerleaders are highly recommended to join any dance studio to help improve their techniques and dancing, especially stunting/break-dancing classes, etc.

  •  Assure that rides pick you up after practice.

  • Uniforms are mandatory for all performances.

  • If a member misses a performance without prior notice, he or she will not participate for two performances thereafter.

  • Roll call for all performances will be 1hr before show time.  This time is used for stretching out, practice, and preparations, as well as photo ops if any.

  • Members late for roll call will be given another opportunity to correct this issue. Otherwise, they will not perform on the next event.

  • FOR GAME PERFORMANCES ONLY:  The cheer team will perform at the beginning and during halftime of each home game.  The team must also lead chants during the games.

  • The cheer team can have a pep squad (or group of friends to follower and cheer with the team). Both the dance team and cheer squad get a school ID for free access into all home games. The only requirement is that they must learn the various cheers and chants of the school, as well as wear an ID card.

  • Wear you IDs at all times until performance time.

  • Before performances, all bags and personal belongings must be given to the team manager.

  • All team props are also managed and monitored by the team manager.

  • Members who come late may have a chance of losing their position in the performance, based on the team captains.

  • Members who learn a routine and clean their moves immediately are given Varsity status.  They will be the main performers for that routine.

  • Members who display a learning curve in mastering a routine or technique are given Junior Varsity  status.

  • Nominees for this position will go through an interview screening process from either the Principal or Athletic Director. The questions are situational and selection will be based on how the nominees carry themselves, as well as resolve problems.

  • If team captains do not execute their role properly in one quarter, he or she will forfeit the position for the next quarter. Nominations will occur and go through another screening process.

  • Team captains assure that members are present at roll call prior to event. If members do not show up 30mins after roll call, the team captains will make appropriate changes and decisions prior to showtime.

  • Team captains initiate a chant at the beginning of each performance.

  • Team captains must be present in all performances.

  • Only Varsity status can be nominated for this position.

UNIFORMS

  • All members are responsible for the purchase of their uniforms and is not provided by the school or team advisor, choreographer, and manager.

  • All members must purchase their uniforms at the Financial Aid Office of the school.

  • Uniforms can change quarterly for halftime performances (when necessary). So, at the end of the school year, the team may have a total of four uniforms.

  • If a member is not in the proper uniform, he or she may not perform for that event.

  • Members can do a fundraiser for their uniforms if it is very difficult to purchase on their own.
